A LIFELONG EDUCATOR. FIGHTING FOR US.

MEET CAITLIN

Caitlin Millat for Our Schools

Caitlin Millat is a mom, former elementary educator, and law professor who has spent her career fighting for public schools. She's running for the Phoenix Elementary School District #1 Governing Board to do just that: protect public education for our community.

A LIFELONG EDUCATOR

Caitlin began her professional life as an elementary school teacher, teaching kindergarten, first, and third grades and ultimately working as an assistant principal. That experience shaped everything that came after, and she has made it her life’s work to support the project of public education.

Today, she is an Associate Professor of Law at Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, where she teaches Education Law, Family Law, Civil Procedure, and Constitutional Law, and where she writes about education, families, and democracy. Her work, which has been published in top law journals across the country, centers on a simple conviction: strong public schools are foundational to a healthy democracy.

ACCOUNTABILITY TO PARENTS & STUDENTS

Caitlin knows how public institutions are supposed to work and how to hold them accountable when they don't. After teaching, she attended NYU School of Law, then clerked for two federal judges, practiced law at one of the top firms in New York, and taught at Harvard Law School before bringing her family to Phoenix. She is no stranger to high expectations and demanding success. She believes the people making decisions about our children's schools should answer to the families those schools serve, not to outside political organizations or private interests chipping away at public education.

WHY SHE'S FIGHTING

On the board, Caitlin will fight to keep public schools public and fully funded across all parts of the district, even as voucher programs drain resources and force painful closures. She will fight for safe, healthy school buildings and for students' physical and emotional well-being. She will fight to make sure every child, in every neighborhood of the district, has access to a great education. And she will fight to ensure the board operates transparently and in the genuine interest of students, with the community's voice being heard at every step.

Caitlin lives in the Coronado neighborhood with her husband, Jesse, their two-year-old son, Ollie, and their dog, Bo. When she is not working, she enjoys playing and watching basketball (Go Mercury!), playing trivia games (she was once a Jeopardy! contestant) and trying to convince Ollie to try more vegetables (tips welcome!).
